Key Vocabulary 

 

  •  Ballet - A theatrical work or entertainment in which a choreographer has expressed their ideas in group and solo dancing to a musical accompaniment with appropriate costumes, scenery and lighting
  • Jazz Dance - Dance form developed by African-Americans in the US in the early part of the 20th century. 
  • Tap Dance  - An American dance form characterized by rapid foot-tapping movement 
  • Drag - In a stretched up body position, touch the toe to the floor relatively far from the supporting foot and move it toward that foot; no weight. 
  • Pencil turn - Pirowette with both legs straight. 
  • Pirouette: Turn on one leg that begins in plie and goes to releve from a plie
  • Plie - A bending of the knees 
  • Releve - Rising up on your toes
  • Preparation - To prepare

  • Articulation - speaking, being spoken, speech; the way words are pronounced

  • Students will be able to understand how to produce a proper tone resulting from proper Vowel shapes
  • Students will understand how to produce a proper tone resulting from correct seating and standing posture.
  • Students will understand how to produce a proper tone resulting from correct breath support.
