HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY Experiment Let’s do a simple exercise right now. In the grand scheme of things there are several different categories in life in which you can define goals. A. Money B. Job or Business C. Relationships D. Health E. Fun/Recreation F. Spiritual G. Personal H. Service Right now, pick just one of them; just one category. Now get out a piece of paper and pen. Write down the category and one goal for that category. Just one goal – doesn’t matter how simple or complicated. Think about why this goal is important to you. Why does THIS goal stand out from the rest? Write that down. This is a SERIOUS exercise. If you are just reading through and plan to keep reading, then please stop NOW and get that piece of paper and write it down. Here’s the next question you need to ask yourself. Remember that you’ve written a goal that popped in to your head and it must have been important to be at the top of your mind. Have you written down this goal? Did you write down WHY? OK, here’s the next question. This is a goal that was important to you . . . so why HAVEN’T you achieved it yet? What’s been stopping you? There are multiple answers to this question – and that’s what Transform Your Life is going to help you answer and GET PAST. By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 4

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY THIS IS WHAT YOU DO NEXT Instead of wondering HOW you’ll achieve your dreams or believing that you WON’T . . . you need to leave this in the hands of future days and concentrate today on what is important today. This means working through this Quick Start Guide so you are ready for the first module of Transform Your Life. Do NOT anticipate or get concerned about what’s coming next. Concentrate on today . . . what we are doing RIGHT now. One Step At A Time and YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS! Anytime you make changes in your life you’ll make mistakes. Anytime you start something new you’ll have a learning curve where you don’t get it right as often in the first times you do it, but get it right more often, the more you do it. Your success is not defined by whether or not you experience failure, but by your actions after you stumble and fall. Throughout the Transform Your Life program we’ll be uncovering more information about your life that helps you make the changes that you’ll need to make in order to experience greater success. You have to start somewhere, and today . . . right NOW . . . is the time and place to start. Are you familiar with the five stages of grief? It’s a theory about how people go through the grieving process when they lose something that was very important to them, like a spouse, job or position in society. More recently there has been some new investigation into those stages and how they may, or may not, apply. However, that’s a digression from our focus here. Interestingly, new research has also discovered five stages of change. Psychologists studied over 870 people who were trying to stop smoking and identified five different stages that were necessary in order for the participants to be successful in their efforts to stop smoking. We’re going to use those stages as we move through the Transform Your Life program and help you to change your life. In different stages you are more likely to respond to different triggers, feedback and information. By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 5

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY Interestingly, the people who relapsed and didn’t achieve their goal, cycled back to previous stages as they motivate themselves to begin the process again. All of our programs are built on an I.D.E.A. I: idea, implement, identify D: desire, determination E: educate, engage and encourage A: activate, action, achievement The Transform Your Life program is not difficult. And it builds on our proprietary Goal Positioning Strategy – or GPS system. Our system will guide you to identify your strengths and weaknesses as well as your vision for your future. You will pinpoint your desire and get the education you need to understand the actions necessary to find success in your life. We’ll use this Goal Positioning Strategy to focus your actions and develop a plan that will inspire you to develop greater success in your life. Throughout this Quick Start Guide are selfassessments that will help you identify some of the hidden obstacles in your life and put names to the road blocks you already know exist. You’ll be able to set realistic and attainable goals. Inside Healthy Life University you’ll have incentives to achieve those goals and rewards when you do. One of the assets to Transform Your Life you won’t find in many other programs and books, is our accountability program built in to our online group coaching and online community. That accountability will run in two directions. In other words, we are there to help you stay on target and you’ll be asked to give us feedback on the program so we can continue to give you the necessary tools to achieve your goals. All of Healthy Life America is a judgment free zone where you can share your hopes, dreams, goals and achievements without fear. A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history. ~Mahatma Gandhi By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 6

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY Writing Your Vision and Mission Statement Before you can write objectives or milestones you want to achieve, you have to know the general direction you want your life to take. In business and personal development terms this means your vision and mission statements. In both cases your statements should be short and to the point so you’ll be better able to remember and use them to guide your daily decisions. Realistically, either statement can be very long or short but they will include a few different criteria. Vision Statement: This can take you several days or weeks to craft but ultimately it will be something that guides you. Vision statements are aspirational and inspirational. This is the primary direction you’ll take for the next 3 years. This is not an outline or plan to achieve goals but key objectives you’ll use to develop strategies. Mission Statement: Your mission statement will define why you exist or the reason you do what you do every single day. Each of us has different reasons for getting up each morning. Unfortunately, not all of us have taken the time to identify what that reason might be. Some examples of short visions statements might include: - Help people to be healthy. To create a better everyday life for the many people. (Ikea) A computer on every desk and in every home; all running Microsoft software. (Microsoft) Become a $125 billion company by the year 2000. (Walmart) Following are the vision and mission statements for Healthy Life America: Vision: To develop products and services for Churches and Businesses that will impact the physical and financial health of their members, employees and create a healthy environment that promotes success. Mission: To provide products and services that will inspire, educate, empower and successfully engage individuals to plan for the unexpected things in life, save on everyday purchases, implement preventive physical and financial health goals and to balance their work and life so they can live well. HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY Vision and mission statements keep you focused and clear to your goals and future. These are the statements you’ll keep with you, post in your office or the refrigerator and keep a copy in your wallet. As you make decisions each day, refer to your vision and mission statements to be sure you are staying on track with your future desires. In the next pages let’s go through some questions that will help you define both your vision and mission statements. We are going to use questions to identify the issues that are most important to you because you ALREADY use questions every day to focus your efforts and decide what to do. You already ask yourself . . . - What’s next? Can I do this? Why can’t I get this done? How can I make this work? Why do these things keep happening to me? How can I make this change? Why can’t I make more money/find a spouse/get a better job? What is wrong with my life? Did you know that the kind of questions you ask will determine the kind of life you will lead? This is because your questions will trigger a set of answers. These answers will lead to emotions and your emotions trigger actions. Your actions determine your results. When you ask limiting questions . . . you’ll get limited results. In the coming modules we’ll briefly go over the concept that your thoughts create an emotional reaction, which drives your actions that determine your results. The questions you ask will trigger thoughts. When you ask open ended questions designed to focus your mind forward, you’ll get more out of the experience. The questions in this exercise will excite, inspire and empower you. You ask the right questions to focus your attitude and get answers you can use to ignite your passion, inspiration and love for life. Questions give you control of the conversation you have going on in your own head. They also give you control in conversations with your boss, spouse and family. The answers give you information and information is power. You’ll discover all kinds of information that you can piece together like a puzzle to see the bigger picture that is the life you want to lead. By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 8

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY In psychological terms this is the inquiry dimension of dialogue when we are seeking to understand what is true for ourselves and to find what is important to our own perspective. Unfortunately, sometimes we spend our lives putting our head down and moving forward, going to bed at night and getting up the next day to do it all again. We don’t know what we’re doing or why, just that we have long lists of things that HAVE to be done without a real end goal in sight. Actively questioning your motives and ideas is much like really listening to someone else and offering feedback. You should listen to others, but it’s just as important to listen to yourself. Don’t just listen to others . . . listen to yourself too! By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 9

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY Workbook Questions Part I This is the first section of questions in the Quick Start Guide. To get the most from this program it’s important to think through these questions and write down your answers. This is the information you’ll use to develop your vision and mission statements. 1. What are the things in life that I am passionate about? [List as many as you would like. Think of the things that make you happy, keep you smiling, give you energy to DO them. HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY 9. Considering the answers I wrote for the past questions – what do I want to be doing in 3 years? [Ultimately, this is the basis for your vision statement. This will be statement that will help you build strategies and tactics to achieve the goal. In 3 years do you want to be married, own your own business, have a better job, have more friends, give more to your community, have more interaction with children, have a degree . . . it doesn’t matter what your statement is AS LONG AS IT IS YOURS. Let’s clarify this just a bit. The media, television, movies, bloggers, advertisers and anyone else marketing anything else will tell you what you SHOULD want. You SHOULD want to be a blonde, a specific size, a millionaire home-owner, driving a Lexus with lots of toys and six-pack abs no matter if you are a man or woman. Forget about what the media is telling you – what do YOU want in your life. You have one life, no one else will live it. YOU choose what you want because you are UNIQUE.] ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ 10. What is the force that is driving me every day to get out of bed? [Again, consider the answers to the past questions. Forget about your to-do lists and the things that you feel HAVE to be done. If your list was complete, your house clean, your family peaceful, your cars in good working order, your bank account full, your heart full of joy – WHAT would drive your actions? This is the basis for your mission statement. This is what your life is all about. Only you can answer this question and if you can’t right now, then remember to come back to it as we journey through Transform Your Life.] ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 13

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY Strategies and Tactics Once you’ve put down on paper your vision for your life and your mission statement, it’s time to determine the strategies you’ll use to get there. As we talked about in your vision statement – this is where you see your life in the next three years. To get to that point you’ll need to take some ACTION. Without action you won’t move one inch from where you are now. This is the step where you’ll define the steps you have to take to get TO your goals. This is NOT the time to worry about whether or not you know HOW to do what you must do. This is the time to define steps you DO KNOW, one step at a time. And, more importantly, the steps you write down for your goals will only be the first or first and second. Think about it . . . if you knew how to achieve your goals and what was stopping you – you would have gotten there already. So the logical conclusion is that you either aren’t clear on all the steps or you have something holding you back. If it’s the first reason then you can’t write down all the steps because you don’t know them. If there is something stopping you, then you have to get that out of the way first. In this section you should dissect your vision into smaller pieces so you can define the first step to reach that goal. For instance, if your vision is: To live a healthy life weighing 130 pounds, in a modest home no more than 30 minutes from a beach, running my own business, with hours to volunteer each week, own 2 dogs and 1 horse. This vision for the next three years will mean that you: -Learn to eat a healthy diet and what that diet IS -Lose enough weight to weigh 130 pounds -Have the money and credit to buy that modest house 30 minutes from the beach -Determine WHAT beach -Have a business that can be run from anywhere because a move may be in order -Work no more than 40 hours each week so volunteering is an option -Purchase 2 dogs and 1 horse Each of these steps has many other steps, not all of which will be clear from the beginning. At some point during the process you may find that you need to change your focus and your vision By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 14

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY . . . but you’ll do it because you took ACTION and found that the vsion you thought you wanted isn’t working for you. You will NOT change it because you didn’t do anything to achieve the goal. That’s because inside Transform Your Life you’ll have accountability. Accountability means you are working with, or telling, someone your goals. When you work with someone else something interesting happens. You either want to please that person or you don’t want to displease them. Accountability increases the potential that you’ll achieve your goals and find the success you’ve been dreaming about. Life is a journey. During this journey you’ll achieve some target objectives and move on to make new ones. Think about it this way . . . If your goal is to get a racing bike and you do, will you have another goal that follows? The racing bike is really an objective to achieve the next target. We are humans and we won’t be satisfied with everything we have forever. Instead, we’ll look forward to something new. In this case, you might get the bike and then want to win your age class in the next race. These are all objectives or milestones. Your first steps are milestones which you WILL achieve. So, take a look at your vision and write out some of the milestones you’ll want to start with. In the case of the vision above one of the first steps might be to read Daily Dose America from Healthy Life America every day in order to learn some of the changes that might be made to a diet to make it healthier. Another might be to find an accountability partner who will exercise together and help watch calories. You may want to find a financial counselor to learn the first steps to managing your money and credit better. Choose small steps for your mission. Be sure you know WHY you want to achieve those milestones. Do them WITH someone. Write them down and keep them visible. If you know only the first step you can take, then do it. Finding a financial counselor is a small step. Making the appointment and keeping it, a small step. After that the counselor can point you in the right direction. But they are all small and doable steps. By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 15

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY This is a simple enough exercise but one that requires that you actually DO IT. Just thinking about it, or reading the questions and agreeing that you SHOULD do it is not enough. You have to actually: 1. Define your vision for the next three years. 2. Determine if it fits your mission for your life. 3. Write the vision down with specifics. 4. Separate out the pieces of the vision. 5. Determine the first steps to achieve each piece of the puzzle. Those are the first steps. There are more steps to come, but if you don’t take the first steps then you’ll fail at the next ones because you don’t have a foundation on which to build your future. Inside your Productivity Journal are places to transfer this information and break it down even further into the different categories or sections of your life – such as money, relationships, service, spiritual or job/business. Your vision for the next 3 years likely includes at least several of these categories or sections. Now that you’ve defined your vision and written down the goals and milestones you must reach to achieve your overall vision, you should move your action plan to the Productivity Journal after you’ve finished the last Workbook section of the Quick Start Guide. Don’t worry about how to get through the next steps in your plan, because as you take the journey through Transform Your Life you will see those next steps and the ones afterward. Any fears, problems, issues, challenges or obstacles that have held you back from achieving your dreams in the past will become a thing of the past. In order to achieve your dream:      You have to know what your dream is. You have to be willing to take steps to achieve your dream. You have to know that you will stumble and fall - but in getting up and trying again you’ll become stronger and more knowledgeable. You might change your dream. You must stay on course to get what you want. By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 18

HEALTHY LIFE UNIVERSITY    You may have to work longer than 3 years. You may work shorter than 3 years. You won’t get anything but disappointment if you stop taking ACTION Life is a journey and that journey is taken in steps . . . not leaps. This is one of the steps you will take to achieve your objective. What is Failure? Throughout our lives we learn about failure. In grade school we avoid the dreaded “F” on our report cards by working in class and studying. If we don’t, our egos are bruised and we begin to think less of ourselves because others think less of us. As we age, there are no more report cards, but the “F” hangs over our heads. The boss’s criticism, the spouse’s disapproval, the children’s disappointment and your own interpretation of what the neighbors “must be thinking” all pile heaps on our heads and make it sometimes seem as if everyone in the world is out to get us. But the real definition of failure is when you stumble . . . fall . . . and then refuse to get up and try again. When children are learning to walk they spend a large part of the time on the floor, trying to figure out how to make their little legs, arms and body work together. They might fall and cry, but they get up again and try once more. It isn’t until we adopt and integrate information we receive from others that we even consider not trying again. At that point in life we learn about failure. For the purposes of Transform Your Life, we are setting aside failure. Failure does not exist and is not a possibility. Instead, it’s important to realize and understand that you will STUMBLE AND FALL. You will reach challenges and obstacles. But you will NOT fail. Because . . . Failure is not an option. Answer the questions in the next pages to pinpoint times in your life that you may have FELT like a failure or you may have felt that you failed. When you are done with that exercise we’re going to use that information to do a hard reset on your life. Through the rest of the program you’ll remove the obstacles that have prevented you from achieving the results you want. By Healthy Life America and Healthy Life University 19
